Terravertine™

A lime-based natural plaster, for use on most interior surfaces.

Product Overview

TerravertineTM is a lime-based natural plaster, for use on most interior surfaces. Extremely durable and highly resistant to staining and scratching. Terravertine can be finished as a smooth or textured polished finish. The smooth finish leaves the surface with variable degrees of sheen dependant on the level of surface burnishing. A sense of depth is achieved through the polished light and shade effect. The textured finish allows for unique effects and styles to be achieved through various application methods. A combination of smooth and textured finish, applied in panels, provides for a dramatic and elegant finish.

Properties

TerravertineTM is a hydrated lime based aggregated polished plaster with the following properties:

  • Smooth and/or textured polished finish
  • Highly resistant to staining and scratching
  • Unique high quality polished plaster finish
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Low odour
  • Non-combustible

Areas Of Use

Terravertine is designed for use on most interior substrates; concrete, cement rendering, lightweight concrete and fair-faced block-work. Terravertine performs equally well on gypsum drywall. The gypsum board joints must be taped with glass fibre scrim, filled with Handycoat Exterior, prior to application of Terravertine

Application Method

Preparation of surface

New surfaces: Ensure that all dust, dirt and foreign matter are scraped and brushed away. Also ensure the surfaces are free from salts, oil, grease and ridges. Protect all adjacent surfaces not to be covered. All cracks, chips, voids and damages should be repaired with Terravertine Basecoat or Handycoat Exterior.
Old surfaces: Before applying Terravertine to old surfaces, ensure the substrate is firm. First wash down the surface with a sugar soap solution, rinse and allow to dry before repairing or applying the primer

Priming

Prime surfaces with a coat of Penetrating Primer prior to application of Terravertine.

Mixing

Mix thoroughly with the recommended water addition in a high speed mixer or with a hand agitator for 3 – 5 minutes. In normal conditions, let Terravertine stand for 5 minutes, then re-stir and use.

Application & Cleaning of tools

Terravertine Basecoat is applied in areas which require pre-leveling in layers up to 5mm thickness. Application is by conventional plastering methods. Allow surface to cure for 72 hours.

Apply a coat of Terravertine Finishcoat using a white steel fine-edged trowel. Complete single surfaces in one operation to avoid dry joints. First coat is applied by trowel at a consumption rate of approx 1.2kg /m2.

Apply a second coat of Terravertine Finishcoat and finish in the desired method, either smooth or texture finish.

Allow to dry for 48 hours and finish by applying a wax if required.

Clean tools and equipment with water after use.
