Product Overview

Handycoat GJC (Gypsum Joint Compound) is an interior ready to use filler specifically formulated for jointing gypsum board with excellent application properties to provide a superior bond for embedding tape and glass fibre scrim. It has excellent non-slump properties and is ideal for patching plaster cracks. Complies with ASTM C 475

Properties

Handycoat Gypsum Joint Compound is made from a selected blend of polymers and graded fillers. It has the following properties.

Application Method

Surface Preparation

Ensure that dust, dirt and foreign matter are brushed away. Ridges and form oil must also be removed. Paper and gypsum burrs due to board cutting to be removed from the edges.

Protruding screw heads to be driven home. Handycoat Gypsum Joint Compound to be applied to the vertical and horizontal gaps. Jointing tape is embedded onto this layer. When applying Handycoat Gypsum Joint Compound to old painted surfaces, first wash down with soda/water solution, rinse and allow to dry before application of Handycoat Gypsum Joint Compound.

Mixing:

Ensure that the tools used for the application are clean. Mix thoroughly before application of the material. Do not mix any other product with this material.

Priming:

To stabilize a surface which shows signs of flaking or dusting the use of Terraco Penetrating Primer is recommended.

Application

Apply the first layer (150 mm wide) of Handycoat Gypsum Joint Compound and level
out. Upon drying, apply the second layer (200 mm wide) and allow to dry. Apply the third layer (275 mm wide) and make it even. After drying, lightly sand to remove any imperfections and remove the dust from the joint.

The same method should be followed for corners. For the corners, the jointing tape should be folded to form a right angle and used. Drywall screw spots should also receive equal number of applications.

Clean tools and equipment with water after use.
