European-style Huawei R&D campus brought to life with Terraco’s high-performance façade coatings.
The Huawei Ox Horn Campus, often referred to as Huawei City, is a remarkable architectural achievement located in Dongguan, China, overlooking the picturesque Songshan Lake. Built at a cost of approximately $1.5 billion, the campus spans 296 acres and is home to over 25,000 research and development staff. What sets this site apart is its distinctively European design, featuring 12 zones modelled after iconic European towns, including a castle from Luxembourg and buildings inspired by Versailles. A red Swiss train even runs through the property, reinforcing its immersive atmosphere.
To meet the extraordinary architectural demands of this themed development, Terraco was selected through a rigorous, multi-round evaluation involving Huawei’s design, engineering and procurement teams. Terraco’s commitment to high-performance, stylistically versatile exterior coatings positioned it as the ideal partner to help realise Huawei’s vision of a “living architectural museum.”
Terraco’s Terracoat range of textured coatings was used extensively across the campus. These finishes were meticulously colour-matched to over 27 custom tone combinations, harmonising with the distinct façades inspired by different regions of Europe. The result was a seamless integration of classical European aesthetics with modern performance materials—coatings that not only captured the beauty and authenticity of vibrant textured finishes, but also provided weather durability, surface flexibility and long-term protection suited for China’s varied climates.
Huawei’s selection of Terraco for this ambitious project reinforces Terraco’s position as a global leader in exterior coating innovation—trusted to deliver quality, consistency and architectural compatibility on the world’s most imaginative developments.
